Welcome to Week 5 of the One Room Challenge! If you are new here, we are renovating our powder room into a beautiful maximalistic french style bathroom retreat on the main level of our new-to-us home. Let’s do a quick recap of the last few weeks:
Week 1: Inspiration + Mood Board
Week 3: When Renovations Come to a Standstill
Week 4: Learning New Skills During Renovations
This renovation has been like none other before. With all our previous One Room Challenges, we’ve always had very visible progress every week. But with this one, we’ve ran into quite a few challenges from shipments being delayed on certain parts to running into some challenges behind the walls with plumbing to simply not having enough time in the day or week to get it all done.
A ‘gut’ job renovation is quite the process, so we’ve learned over the last two renovations. Especially when plumbing and electrical are in the mix, it can get complicated in a heartbeat and you simply can’t take shortcuts or else you’ll be paying for it down the line.
So while it might not look like we’ve had much progress this week, trust me when I say, we made HUGE progress!
Chris learned plumbing 101 thanks to Youtube and was able to get all the pipes properly fitted in the wall in order to work for our exposed plumbing vanity situation. I had NO clue it was going to be that much work when I decided on that console vanity with the exposed under belly. I’m just SO grateful that I have a husband who doesn’t shy away from a hard task and is willing to learn anything in order to get the job done!
Once the plumbing was all complete, it was time to close up those walls! And if you’ve ever drywalled, you also will know that job ain’t for the faint of heart either! All the precise measurements and cuts and then screwing everything in the right place is a tough job. We also got all the mudding and tapping done and are just waiting for it to dry to sand down in order to paint!
And as you’ll notice, we’ve got the floor tile in! While it’s not fully complete (not grouted yet), isn’t she GORGEOUS?! I knew early on that I wanted a small white and black hexagon tile and I went back and forth between a few designs. I wasn’t sure if I wanted a full-on flower or just a single black dot design. But going with that maximalistic theme, I decided to take the plunge and order the black flower (these tiles were also purchased online without me seeing them first – just like everything else in this makeover!)
When they arrived, my heart leapt! They were even more beautiful in person than online! And now that I see them in the space and am starting to see even the earliest beginnings of my design come to life, I’m getting SO excited for how it’s all going to come together!
So, if you’re keeping track, we have only ONE WEEK LEFT in this One Room Challenge! <GULP> And as you can see from the images, we have A LOT, and I mean A LOT left to do. Here’s the list:
- Finish sanding drywall
- Finish grouting floor
- Add trim
- Add board and batten to lower half of walls
- Prime and paint
- Wallpaper upper half of walls
- Install two light sconces
- Install vanity
- Install faucet into the vanity
- Install new toilet
- Hang mirror
- Hang shelves
- Style with accessories
PHEW! Like I said…A LOT left to do. But do you think we can do it?! Honestly, I’m not 100% sure…we may be pulling a few all nighters over the next week, but one things for sure, we are going to work our @$$’s off to try and GET IT DONE!
Stay tuned friends for the BIG reveal!
Love & Blessings,
Christine
