It’s been awhile since I’ve posted an event that I planned, so on this bright and sunny (yet still cold and snowy) afternoon, I thought I would bring you back to last summer when I had the privilege of hosting my sisters baby shower.
You see, not only is Julie my only sibling, she (and her husband Todd), had a very difficult time getting pregnant. After years of trying, lots of meetings at the fertility clinic, a tragic miscarriage, being diagnosed with severe endometriosis and then surgery to try and fix it and countless hospital visits, Julie finally got pregnant! Our family was over the moon with joy for them as we had all been praying and believing this would happen!
Even though I don’t live in the same city as my family anymore, it was really important to me, as her older sister, to plan this shower for my little sis! So with lots of planning and coordinating, Julie’s Little Birdie Vintage Baby Shower came to life!
I had the invitations and party prints custom made on Etsy from E-Three Design Studio, which set the tone for the theme of vintage birds and the colors of cream, soft teal and coral. I also took up-cycled used tin cans and spray painted them a champagne color and then decorated them and used them as vases!
We had mainly sweet delectables to eat, including a chocolate fountain and candy buffet! Yes please!
We had the cake made, to match the invitation, by Le Gâteau, an in-home bakery located just outside of Ottawa. We were SO pleased with how the cake turned out and it was delicious too!
We had nail polish, in coordinating shower colors, as the party favors for all the guests!
We also had a headband making station for Baby C! Guests absolutely loved this idea as they were able to make something special for little Cece!
I handmade the rag banner by simply tearing strips of fabric and tying them around a rope!
And finally, here is my beautiful, glowing, pregnant sister! Julie was one of those preggo momma’s that just look so perfect when pregnant! What people also didn’t realize was that not only was the journey to getting pregnant SO difficult for Julie, but not even halfway into her pregnancy, she started experiencing severe pains, which lasted the rest of the pregnancy and landed her in the hospital many times, including the last few weeks before her daughter was born. Julie was in alot of pain at her shower, yet she never complained…just always smiled! Of every pregnant woman I’ve ever know (and I’ve known alot), she has had the most reason to complain and I don’t think I heard her ONCE say a negative thing. She took everything in stride as sign that a miracle was growing inside of her!
As a final update, little Cecelia Hope was born on July 18th, 5 weeks early, weighing exactly 5 lbs! Cece had a brief stay in the NICU due to being born so early, but overall, she was a perfectly, healthy little girl who continues to thrive today at almost 8 months old! She is a little miracle girl who has an amazing destiny and I’m so proud to be her auntie!
Hope you are enjoying the sun today, wherever you are!
