A Mobile Phone is All You Really Need

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Mobile Shop.

A common concern from many wanna-be bloggers/vloggers/online content creators when they are first starting out is that they don’t have good enough equipment to start. It’s an excuse that I myself have heard over and over again where people think that just because they don’t have a $3,000 camera that they therefore cannot create anything to go online. But the truth is, at the end of the day, it’s not the equipment that matters, it’s the story. Bottom line.

And here’s the interesting part about that – when blogging and vlogging (video blogging) first started, it was NEVER about the best equipment, pictures/videos or editing skills. That was part of the beauty of the Internet with various social platforms rising up where ANYONE could create ANYTHING at ANY skill level using ANY piece of equipment and share it for the entire world to see. Overtime as online content creators became more popular, we started to see a shift of the raw, more unedited versions of what people were creating to a much more curated, magazine-like aesthetic. When it came to videos, they were looking more and more like films you would see coming out of Hollywood and less and less like amateur filmmakers.

    And that inevitably brought pressure.

    Lots of it.

Especially for creators who didn’t have access or knowledge of the higher end gear.

But the point of the matter is that while the lights, camera and fanfare are all nice, they are not needed in order to create.

In the few years that I’ve been blogging, I myself have seen this to be true too. Some of the best, most viewed and most consumed content that I’ve created were all done long before I knew much about editing or even styling a picture, for that matter, but also with the little inexpensive equipment that I had when we first started.

As we’ve grown, we’ve definitely upgraded our gear, along with our skill level, but technology has grown a lot as well.

Specifically, mobile device technology has changed dramatically in just a few years, mainly when it comes to the built-in cameras.

Now, many of the newest smartphones are able to shoot video in 4K resolution, are able to take photos with blurred backgrounds and can function a lot like a $2,000 DSLR while costing a fraction of the price!

This is great news for young and new creators because most people have cellphones and some of those people upgrade those phones every two years, making sure to have the latest/greatest that is available.

Because having a quality camera built-in to my phone is so important for my job as a blogger, it was important for me to find the best phone that would work for my needs. On a whim while grocery shopping, I stopped over at The Mobile Shop at my local Superstore (yes, all three kids were in tow) to see the different options. To be honest, I wasn’t planning on buying anything that day, mainly because I figured I had to go to my cell phone provider and do it there.

After telling the sales agent all of my mobile device needs, he showed me a couple of options for phones, but also was able to show me the various phone plans out there. I realized immediately that I was actually paying MORE money for LESS data on my current plan and provider. He was able to not only set up the whole phone, but also change over my plan and set me up with a brand new provider. All while my kids munched on chips in the buggy! Talk about convenience!

Having upgraded to the iPhone8+ I have been blown away by the quality of pictures. While it can’t shoot in raw like my DSLR can, it does a pretty darn good job. In fact, many people can’t tell when I show which photos are taken with my new iPhone and which are with my DSLR.

All of that to say, if you are looking to start blogging or want to elevate your game, having a great mobile device with a solid built-in camera is all you need to get the job done and get it done well! Fancy, expensive gear is nice, but it’s totally not necessary.

So what are you waiting for?! Chances are all you need to get you started is right there in your pocket!

    Love & Blessings,

    CMartin-Sign
