If I had to choose one region of food to eat for the rest of my life, I would probably have to pick Greek food. While I enjoy a wide range of ethnic foods, there is just something about the Greek flavors that send my tastebuds soaring and always leave me so satisfied.
It was actually my mother-in-law who got me hooked on Greek food. While my husband and I were still dating, we visited her once and I can remember this Greek feast that she prepared. I had honestly never tasted food so good and I was immediately sold on these Mediterranean flavors. Every time that we visited her after that, my one and only request was for her to make Greek again!
Even when I find myself in the food court of a shopping meal, nine times out of ten, I will always choose a Greek dish. I feel as though it’s just a flavor that I can never tire of.
One of my favorite parts of Greek food is the dips! Oh, the beloved DIPS! My tastebuds just watered as I typed that. From the traditional tzatziki sauce to baba ganoush to hummus and I’m sure others in between, just layer any of those together and I could feast on that alone.
Now, while there is some debate over where exactly all those different dips originated from, it’s safe to say that they all came from the Mediterranean to Middle Eastern parts of the world and are commonly enjoyed together.
Thinking ahead to this summer and all the entertaining we will be doing, I’m trying to plan out some good, shareable recipes that I can put out when guests first come over. Nothing worse than making your guests starve while you are still making dinner! I always like having something out to nibble on!
But instead of just setting out random dips on their own, I decided to take one of my favorite hummus from Sabra, the Roasted Garlic Hummus, and make a delicious layer dip, topped with a simple Greek salad. This is so easy to put together and I promise your guests will LOVE it! You can serve this along with some toasted pita (we do ours in the oven until the edges are brown, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with Greek seasoning) or with crackers or chips.
- 1 container of hummus, (Sabra Roasted Garlic is my preference)
- 1 container of tzatziki (or homemade)
- 1 red pepper, diced
- 1 yellow pepper, diced
- 1/2 english cucumber, diced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1-2 tbsp Greek salad dressing
- Approx 5 pitted kalamata olives, chopped
- 1-2 tbsp feta, crumbled
- In a medium sized serving dish, start layer in the hummus along the bottom.
- Next, layer in the tzatziki
- In a separate bowl, mix together the vegetables for the Greek salad, along with the dressing. Once combined, top the layer dip with salad
- Top the salad with olives
- Sprinkle with feta and serve with pita, chips or crackers
