Good Monday Morning, friends! Well I’m not going to lie, January turned out to be a pretty crazy and emotional month for me. Some unexpected things happened that totally side swiped me and quite honestly, distracted me from just about everything important in my life. More on that in the coming weeks…
But along with being distracted, I completely fell off the bandwagon with my health and fitness journey that I had started the first two weeks of January. And when I say fell off the bandwagon, I mean I fell off, rolled down the hill, crossed the street and found myself playing in a field of fast food and junk! AHHH! Why does that happen?! Emotional eating is something I’ve always struggled with, as I’ve shared before, and in light of everything I’ve just walked through the last few weeks, I’m committing to put an end to it! Not just put an end to emotional eating, but to put an end to allowing my feelings and day-in, day-out life to become so affected by other peoples words and actions. Again, more on that in the coming weeks…
Ok, so today, I feel like I’m kick starting 2016 all over again. January was a month of testing and trial and I’m quite literally shaking it off (thank you Taylor) and refocusing. And what better way to start than with this amazing peanut butter and jelly protein shake!
Being a foodie, I’m not one who normally enjoys smoothies. I don’t like the idea of drinking my meal. I love to bite into something and chew it. So smoothies/shakes are something that have taken me a little while to get used to.
Recently, though, my good friend Amelia, came to visit and made me this peanut butter and jelly protein shake. At first, I’ll be honest, I thought it was weird. Peanut butter and jelly in a shake?! But, I gave it a try. And I was shocked at how AMAZING it was! As someone who LOVES peanut butter, this is a home run, in my opinion.
It’s also a great way to still have your peanut butter and jelly “toast” in the morning, without the toast! That has been my favorite breakfast for years but I always knew it wasn’t really healthy. So I love this alternative. Tastes amazing, takes no time to make and with the added whey protein, you are seriously FULL after you drink it!
So let’s get right to the recipe!
- 1 cup milk
- 1 scoop vanilla whey isolate protein
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- Handful of kale or spinach
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Optional: You can add in some other fresh berries like blueberries, raspberries and blackberries to sweeten.
- Add all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth.
- If you find it's not sweet enough, add a little drizzle of honey or pure maple syrup.
So here’s to another start at 2016! If you’ve had a challenging January, that’s ok. It’s never too late to dust yourself off, pick yourself off the ground and take another run at it! I’m right there with you! Let’s do this!
Love & Blessings,
