Well, if you hadn’t already fallen in love with The Distillery District from Part 1 of my anniversary celebration post, let me wet your taste buds with a review on where we went for dinner! I will start by saying that both my husband and I love Mexican food. Next I will say, the Mexican food we indulged in that night was nothing like we’ve had…it was next level! We are talking fine dining Mexican. We are talking El Catrin.
First let’s start by saying that it is quite possibly one of the coolest restaurants you will ever go to! We sat out on the heated patio (top rated patio in Toronto), under these incredible light fixtures and the vibe was just super cool! And trust me, when you spend most days in your sweats at home, changing diapers and wiping kids snotty noses, you really want to feel cool for one night!
What followed next was such an mouth-watering experience! The restaurant is a tapas style, which basically means smaller portions so you can sample a variety of items from the menu. While this style of dining is nowhere near practical, it really is a fun and unique way to dine! We started the meal with the restaurants famous guacamole (guacamole en la mesa), made in a mortar and pestle right at your table! Freshest guac you will ever have! Next we ordered the following items: shrimp & lobster tacos (gobernador), 24 hr braised beef (carrillera en mole negro), seared ahi tuna (atun tostaditas) and crab fritters (pastelito de cangrejo). Each and every bite was like a party in your mouth! So many levels of flavor, so much attention to detail, such unique combinations. Our favorite was hands down the shrimp and lobster tacos…we ended up ordering another round of them! Best bite we’ve both ever had in any restaurant we’ve eaten in!
I loved the taco so much, I just had to take a selfie with it!
You’re probably thinking that was it for this incredible date night…but not before I share with you our very last event! My hubby surprised me and bought tickets for us to see the Broadway Show “Wicked”. I have been wanting to see this for years. We had amazing seats, right near the stage. The show was outstanding! The Wizard of Oz was such a childhood favorite movie of mine and I never knew the story of Wicked, the story behind the witches. Fantastic music, really funny story!
The Ed Mirvish Theatre is just spectacular with it’s historic charm, located right in the heart of downtown Toronto. You feel transported back in time from the moment you step inside the theatre, including sitting in their itty-bitty seats! And look at how close our seats were to the stage! Bonus points for the hubby!
Well, that is how we celebrated our 9th anniversary! Totally in style and so memorable! Love my hubby, I’m so privileged to do life with him! And do I ever love this city! Here’s to many more years, babe, of love, craziness and lots of exploration!
Love & Blessings,
