Laundry/Mudroom Renovation: One Room Challenge Week 4

Welcome to Week 4 of the One Room Challenge! If you are new here, let me catch you up for a minute. We are participating in the One Room Challenge, a bi-yearly online design challenge where designers renovate one space in their home, in six weeks and share the whole journey during those six weeks.

This year, we are renovating our laundry/mudroom, with the help of a few sponsors (listed down below). Our first post, in partnership with Lowe’s Canada, was all about the “before” of the space as well as sharing our inspiration behind the design. The second week we dove straight into demolition! Last week, we shared our gorgeous new sink and faucet, courtesy of Blanco Canada. We are also trying to do weekly videos, but are a tad behind on those (this project has required more of our time than we initially realized). But you can watch the first time videos here and here.

For week 4, we are talking about two of the most important elements to a laundry room – the washer and dryer! We are thrilled to be partnering with LG Canada to feature their LG Twin Washer and Dryer, featuring the LG Sidekick! What’s a sidekick you might ask, well let’s get into it!

I’ll be honest in saying that this is our first pair of LG washing machines since we’ve been married. We always had another brand and were pretty happy with their performance. But every time we sold our homes, we would have to leave our machines behind and get new ones. When we moved into our new house this last summer, we knew that we would be heading into this laundry room renovation and so we decided to hold off on replacing the machines right away. The machines that were left here by the previous owners were AWFUL! I mean truly the worst machines of life (and no, I’m not going to say what brand they are because I don’t roll that way) but let’s just say, I would never buy those machines myself. We actually thought they were broken because the washing machine kept stopping every cycle. We then realized it would only accept a certain kind of detergent and could only handle so much capacity for clothing. If we put in one item too much, it would shut down…while still locked…and we would have to perform magic tricks to try and retrieve our clothing! NOT FUN!

So needless to say, we were THRILLED when LG Canada wanted to partner on this renovation! I was even more thrilled when they sent along this specific model of machines! This is basically the dream team of washing machines. For starters, we have 5.2 cubic feet ultra capacity in the main machine with turbo wash and steam wash features. There are so many options to choose from to really zero in on exactly what kind of wash you are looking for with specific garments. It also uses smart technology to analyze your load and how much water it will need to complete the cycle. Along with that, the machine has 6 Motion DD which moves your clothing six different ways: stepping, filtration, scrubbing, tumble, rolling and swing – all to give your clothing the best care possible while providing an ultra clean wash. I should also mention, all of this is done is less than 30 minutes per load! That’s literally HALF the time it took with our previous machines!

So let’s move into the second washing machine. Yes, you read that right…the SIDEKICK is the DUAL washing machine that is located in the pedestal drawer underneath the main washing machine. This is a smaller washing machine that allows you to do TWO loads at one time when running both machines. It’s perfect for smaller, custom loads such as delicates, uniforms or even workout clothes that you want washed right after a good workout! No longer do you need to wait until you have enough clothes for a full load, just toss it into the Sidekick and wash at anytime! This truly is the first of its’ kind!

Moving onto the dryer, we have the 7.4 cubic feet turbo dryer, which have sensors to accurately dry your clothing. TurboSteam and SteamFresh are both settings that you can use to freshen up clothing that may have become wrinkled in a matter of minutes! The SteamSanitary setting kills bacteria in things such as pillows and other non-washable items and freshens them back up.

Two incredible features that both the washer and dryer have are NFC Tag On and SmartDiagnosis.

NFC Tag On allows you to change and customize your cycles with the use of the app on your smartphone. Tons of custom cycles already loaded for just about anything you want to wash and dry, all you have to do it select it on your phone and place the phone up to the machine to sync it and the cycle will start! I mean, honestly, HOW COOL IS THAT?!

SmartDiagnosis is a self-diagnosing technology that can connect you 24/7 with LG customer service on the phone to help you solve any problems you might run into!

These machines are seriously straight out of laundry room dreams! They are quieter than any machine we’ve ever owned, work faster and more efficiently to get the job done in no time flat and now with the Sidekick machine, we are seriously laughing when it comes to doing laundry as a family of five. Literally one of the most dreaded chores in our home has now become my absolute favourite to do, thanks to these amazing LG Canada machines!

That’s it for today friends! As you can likely tell from the pictures, the room is actually complete! We are heading out on a vacation this weekend so we had to finish it before we leave. But we will still be posting the weekly progress. Make sure to tune in next week to see our built-in bench, cubby and hook area, all thanks to Metrie. We can’t wait to show you how it turned out!

    Love & Blessings,

    Christine
