These days, I find I don’t have much time to watch anything other than a few short videos online. Life is busy and chaotic and after the kids go to bed, the laundry is put away (ok, that actually rarely happens) and the kitchen is cleaned, I often find myself sitting in my office or on the couch or at the kitchen table with only one light left on and I’m working.
I used to use these late hours in the day to unwind and watch tv, but the last year or so, as this blog has expanded, it’s become harder and harder to find that down time to just relax and watch a show…let alone a series.
But over the last few months, I’ve tried really hard to give myself at least ONE night a week where I shut down the emails, Instagram/Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest and blog and just Netflix and chill…like, the kid way! Ha!
Last week, I was invited to Netflix’ private screening of their new original series “The Crown”, I think I’m going to have to make an exception to my “one-night-a-week” rule and full out binge watch this series when it is released later this week!
You see, this show is THAT good.
At the event, we had an amazing private dinner and Q&A with two of the stars of the show, Jared Harris and Vanessa Kirby, this last Tuesday. FYI, Netflix throws the BEST parties in town! I’ve had the privilege to attend two now and I’m honestly blown away by their attention to detail, their amazing entertainment and the FOOD! Oh, the food! That could be a blog post in itself! THAT GOOD!
After our incredible dinner, we were invited upstairs to watch not one, but TWO episodes of The Crown and I honestly wanted MORE.
Written by Peter Morgan, who also wrote “The Queen” back in 2013, “The Crown” is a biography of the royal family, specifically of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Check out this official preview!
This show is brilliantly done from the cast to the wardrobe to the storyline. I think what’s so fascinating about it is that it’s part of our current history: Queen Elizabeth II is still on the throne and she is somewhat of a mysterious figure. We don’t really know a ton about her and so this series is so fascinating to go behind the public figure and get to know the royal family in a whole new way.
If you were a Downton Abbey fan, which I thoroughly was, then I really think you will love this series. In just watching the first two episodes, it reminded me a lot of DA in both the time period, the costumes and the eloquent way they all speak. I even found myself tearing up in a room full of strangers during the second episode, which is part of what left me wanting more!
“The Crown” launches THIS coming Friday, November 4th in both Canada and the US. The first season has 10 episodes, which in glorious Netflix-fashion, will all be released at once! You know where to find me next weekend! And it’s currently scheduled to run six seasons, with approximately 60 episodes, chronicling the Queen’s life on the throne.
Here’s one more sneak peak all about the FASHION and a behind the scenes look at what it took to create these brilliant customs for the show!
So mark your calendars, friends and plan to spend your upcoming Friday night watching “The Crown” on Netflix! You know I will be!
Love & Blessings,
