Peruvian Girls Bedroom | One Room Challenge Week 2

Welcome back to Week 2 of the One Room Challenge! We are making over our daughters bedroom these next eight weeks – if you missed Week 1 where we showed all the ugly BEFORE pictures, make sure to click HERE to check it out!

Today, I’m excited to be sharing more about the theme of the room and the mood board that we created to serve as our inspiration for the project! I’m sure you’ve figured out by now what the theme is based on the title of this post – Peruvian! Since we renovated our daughters last room, she’s been talking about what she’d like to do in her next room (the apple doesn’t fall far from her momma’s tree – always decorating and redecorating). She’s come up with so many different ideas – there was a time she wanted a space theme (not gonna lie, I’m glad that passed quickly), then she wanted a woodland theme and I think she even had a brief moment where she wanted mermaids.

As I knew this renovation was coming down the pipeline earlier this year, I started trying to get her narrow down the focus and zero in on what she really wanted. Because I figure this will be her room for quite some time (as we have no plans to move), I want to make sure whatever we do in here takes her into her teenage years and that she doesn’t outgrow by next year.

Leah has always had a strong love for llamas – not even sure where that came from. One day, she was talking with her Nana about it, as well as her love for mountains and she suggested Peru as a central theme. Leah told me about it and I loved it, so I started planning it immediately!

When it comes to Peruvian decor, it’s a very eclectic feel. There’s lots of colours, similar to Mexican decor, but I’ve found that they are somewhat more muted/earth tone undertones to it. There’s lots of textures and patterns in their designs and lots of artifacts made from clay. Of course there’s the telltale pompoms and tassels that are very closely associated with Peruvian decor that add a beautiful and yet whimsical feature to spaces.

Here is the mood board I created for the space. We are excited to be partnering up with Valspar Canada again for the paint in this space. We managed to get that before everything went into lockdown. And because most of the stores have been closed for the last two months, I’ve been having to slowly collect items from either online or Facebook marketplace (which I’ll talk more about later). I’m still not 100% sure how it will all turn out as our resources are limited, but as I said last week, it’s often times when we are pressed hardest that’s when our most creative selves can flourish!

So for now, enjoy the inspiration for the room! I can’t wait to start getting my hands dirty and start the makeover! Be sure to come back next week to see our first progress shot as we start on the room!

    Love & Blessings,

    Christine
