Dollar Store Spring Decor Home Tour

    Happy Spring, my friends!

I’ll be totally honest, this feels like a weird blog post to share amidst the current global pandemic the world is facing with the coronavirus. We’ve watched for the last few months as places like China and Italy have essentially frozen in time, locking down entire cities and countries and now things are rapidly shifting for us in North America as the virus is here and is not showing any signs of stopping.

This post is not about the virus (I’ll be sharing ideas for self-quarantine with kids tomorrow), but I didn’t feel right just jumping right into this home tour without a little context.

Everywhere I look online it’s the same things: panicked headlines about more sickness or closures, friends sharing those headlines and other friends criticizing those headlines. It just all feels really heavy and at times scary. There are so many unknowns right now which is keeping many people on edge.

As a content creator, I’ve debated what my role is during this time. Do I just talk about the virus? Do I not say anything? Or do I keep on creating, providing a place to escape – a place for inspiration – a place to feel safe and happy and carefree, even if it’s just for the couple of minutes you’re on this page.

So that’s what I’m going to keep doing during this time. I’m going to keep creating. And hopefully, you find peace, happiness, comfort, solace and even community, knowing that while the world is very uncertain right now, we are at least all in this together!

So with that, let’s dive into my Dollar Store Spring and Easter home tour!

If you’ve been with me for the last few years, you know that while I often go CRAZY for Christmas decor, I usually tend to keep things more simple for the other seasons. The main reason I don’t go all out is simply because I don’t have a ton of space to store all of those extra items when the season is over.

But with that said, I DO love to decorate a couple of spaces in the home every season and today I’m excited to share them with you!

The first space that I ALWAYS do EVERY SINGLE SEASON is my fireplace mantle in our living room. This is hands down one of my favourite places in the home to gather with family and friends and it’s where I always have my morning coffee. So with spending that much time in there, I need to have a space that uplifts and inspires me on the daily.

For this Spring/Easter decor, I wanted to try and keep costs down and see what I could find at the dollar store. LET ME TELL YOU – I was SHOCKED! Dollarama has significantly stepped up their game in the home decor section. I actually had to put stuff back!

I did a YouTube video to show you all the fabulous finds, including a few that I DIY’d to make them a perfect fit with my decor.

For the fireplace, I went with a pink coloured theme after I spotted these gorgeous faux cherry blossoms, also from the dollar store! I couldn’t believe how beautiful they were and for only $2 per stem!

The wicker vase and bunnies were also dollar store items, both of which I spray painted to match them better.

The planter pots and faux florals were amazing dollar store finds too! I show in the video how I created those cute succulent planters out of salt and pepper pinch pots! Works for our decor but also makes for a super cute gift too!

The second space I set up for Spring/Easter was a tablescape in our kitchen! If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a really good tablescape! They don’t have to be super fancy or elaborate – simple and low key is fun too! But there’s just something about having a thoughtful set-up for a special dinner with family or friends that makes me so happy!

I did repurpose a few of the mantel items for the tablescape – because why not?! But let’s quickly chat about a few of the dollar store items I incorporated here.

First off, we have these GORGEOUS bunny plates! I was shocked when I found them as the dollar store. They looked like something from Pottery Barn! I love the intricate design as well as the more muted colours. I thought they were a showstopper, so I picked up four!

Next, I incorporated these adorable white with pink ears/nose bunnies! I remember seeing these last year at the dollar store and thinking I should get them and paint them…but I just never did. So when I saw them again there this year, I decided it was time to add these to the collection! I also decided that I really did like them just as they were – no need for painting. I originally planned to tie a bow around their necks, but in all honesty, I completely forgot once I set them out on the table! HA! But the end result is still beautiful and I don’t think they need any fussing!

I also found these gorgeous ceramic “paint-it-yourself” eggs that I thought would be an amazing addition to my tablescape. So many times when you are decorating with Easter eggs, they won’t stay PUT! That’s obviously because they are oval in shape, so when I saw that these had flat bottoms, I knew they were perfect! I love the detail on the eggs – each one is different! I simply used a little spray paint and voila!

The final item I found at the dollar store that just BLEW ME AWAY was the package of decorative balls. Typically, you will find these kind of bags at a home decor store and they are easily between $20-$30. So when I spotted these gorgeous, natural looking balls for only $4 for 19 pieces, I was like “START THE CAR!” I couldn’t believe how beautiful they were – all made with various natural materials like wicker, wood and twine. I loved incorporating them into this tablescape to act almost like a glue that holds all the pieces together and then once I was done with the table I repurposed them into a dough bowl on my coffee table in the living room! They are honestly gorgeous!

Well there you have it friends, my dollar store Spring and Easter home tour! I hope you love how the spaces turned out just as much as I do. You don’t have to go crazy with decorating your entire home for each season – just focus on a couple of spots and switch it up. Also, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to have a significant impact and I hope that this post is proof of that!
