Prepping For the Holidays with the FoodSaver® Brand

This post is sponsored by the FoodSaver® Brand.

The countdown is on til Christmas and as it quickly approaches, people seem to get more and more frantic with their big to-do lists, which usually includes buying last-minute presents and making all kinds of food.

Whether it’s for a big holiday party or an intimate gathering, food is always essential at this time of the year. From Christmas cookies, to pies, to stuffing, to casseroles, and let’s not forget the turkey, there is usually no shortage of cooking and baking going on at this time of the year.

Admittedly, I am someone who gets really stressed during the holidays because there is just so much to do. So one of the things I try to do is plan as far ahead in advance as I can to help alleviate some of demands during the Christmas season.

One way of helping eliminate extra stress is to prep as much food as I can ahead of time. Typically this is in the form of baking but I also try to prepare casseroles in advance as well.

You might think that this isn’t really possible because it won’t be as fresh as when it’s first baked or cooked, but I’m here to challenge that thought when using my FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealing System and heat seal bags.

This machine and these bags are going to become your new best friend this holiday season. They are SO versatile due to the various size options. You can use their zipper bags which are great for smaller items that you might want to get in and out of a lot, or you can use their various rolls and create your own custom sized bag that will fit everything from a single cookie to an entire turkey! True story!

My personal favourite are the expandable bags that will expand up to 14 inches tall! These are the bags that will fit pies, casseroles and that beloved bird, all IN the pan you want to use. That’s right, you can slide the casserole dish or roasting pan right INSIDE the FoodSaver expandable bag and seal away. Then place them into your freezer and have it ready for whenever you need it.

Talk about a game changer when it comes food prep. Your food will remain fresh up to FIVE times longer than in a regular container or freezer bag. The reason is because with the FoodSaver vacuum sealing system, you are removing ALL the air from inside the bags. As we know, air is the enemy when it comes to food preservation. So when it comes to storing your foods in the freezer, it’s so important that you remove as much air as possible in order to maintain freshness.

A great feature about the FoodSaver V4800 model is their Pulse Vac feature. This is perfect for the more delicate items such as baked goods and soft fruits/vegetables. You can control the amount of air removed from the bag in order to not squish down the food. While it’s important to remove the air, you also don’t want to turn your muffins into pancakes and with this model you can ensure that those muffins are still intact after sealing!
