Master Bedroom Makeover: One Room Challenge Week 1

It’s incredible to think that six months have passed since we transformed our boys room for our first ever One Room Challenge. And yet here we are now, launching into a brand new challenge…tackling our master bedroom makeover in the next six weeks!

If you aren’t familiar with the One Room Challenge, let me briefly explain. Two times a year, Calling It Home hosts a One Room Challenge where she invites interior designers and guests  bloggers alike, to make over one space in their homes, in six weeks and each week, share it not only with our own readers, but all of hers as well with a link up.

This last spring was the first time we participated and you guys loved following along! So I thought we would do it again, forcing us to get another space done in our home.

So we’ve chosen our master bedroom. This is a place that is supposed to be a retreat and I’m embarrassed to say but we’ve done NOTHING to it since we moved in, almost two and a half  years ago! But I’ll save more of that for next week.

Today, I want to start by sharing with you my inspiration for the room.

As I’ve mentioned a few times recently, I feel like my style is constantly evolving. I see things every single day that inspire and challenge my current design aesthetic. I don’t want to have a home that looks like everyone else’s home on Pinterest…I want to have a space that is uniquely mine and that reflects the personality of our family.

When we first moved into this home, I thought our master bedroom would be one of the first rooms I tackled. But sadly, after purchasing a beautiful light blue tufted headboard and striped gray and white curtains, nothing else happened.

I knew I wanted a mainly white room, with subtle light blues and grays. But over the last month or so as I’ve been preparing for this makeover, I have found myself not satisfied with just whites and neutrals.

I think I swung so far over to the opposite side of the color spectrum a few years ago when I ditched just about EVERY color for white and neutrals. But now, I’m finding that while I still desire light and airy spaces, I also want areas that tell a story and are appealing to the eye. Not just white on white on white.

So with that said, here is my inspiration board for our master bedroom makeover. Even as I put this out there, I’m nervous! It’s more bold than I am used to, especially that duvet cover! And if I’m totally honest, I think I still have convincing to do with the hubs.

But…I’m pushing myself…out of my comfort zone. And we all know that it’s in those unknown spaces where magic happens. When you let go of certain fears or your own hang-ups where you think things should look a certain way and just try something new and watch it flourish! Are we still talking about home decor, here?! YES WE ARE!!

So are you ready to follow along?! I’m excited to take you along this journey over the next six weeks and watch this room transform! Every Wednesday I will post an update on the room’s status, with some progress pictures and hopefully some DIY’s too!

Here’s to taking risks, working hard and turning our master bedroom into a beautiful retreat!

    Love & Blessings,

    CMartin-Sign
