Dining Al Fresco With a Picnic in the Park

Now that the warm weather is finally here, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the heat! For many of us who experience all four seasons, we have welcomed spring, and the gradual progression into summer, after a long winter. We’ve switched over our wardrobes, pulled out the kids bikes and loaded up on sunscreen and sidewalk chalk and are ready to fully embrace summer!

One of my all time favorite things about the summer is being able to dine al fresco. There is just something about enjoying your food, outside with a warm breeze.

For us though, we don’t currently have a great outdoor space. When we moved to the Greater Toronto Area, one of the sacrifices that we had to make was losing quite a bit of yard space. We also left our patio furniture at our previous home, when we moved here.

But that doesn’t mean that we can’t enjoy dining al fresco! It just means we gotta get creative!

So this week, I decided to pack up a picnic lunch and have a little lunch break with my husband, in a nearby park.

To pack a nice and thoughtful picnic lunch, you really don’t need much. I made some sandwiches, using fresh buns from the local bakery, picked up a few of our favorite cheeses and meats and then added in some fresh fruit. Paired with lemonade and sparkling water, this lunch date was a really special time for us to get together and connected during all the chaos of life. Oh and you can’t forget dessert! I grabbed a few cupcakes for a sweet treat to end our lunch.

Just because you are planning a picnic in the park, doesn’t mean that you have to forfeit a nice “table”scape. Gathering a few items from home, as well as some that I purchased from Wayfair.ca, I was able to create a beautiful space, just as special as any other tablescape that I’ve done at home. On my way to the picnic, I picked up some fresh hydrangeas from the local florist to really bring my “picnic-scape” to life!

It was such a nice time that hubby and I had, although it did start raining so unfortunately we didn’t end up getting any pictures of each other (just the food, cause obviously, that’s what most important, right?!)

Even if you don’t have an outdoor space, or a very small one, you can still entertain outside. Head to a nearby park and set up a picnic space for your family and friends. Or do as I did and do a little picnic lunch with just your spouse during a lunch break. And you don’t even need to go far…you could set this up on your front lawn! As long as you are outside, eating with the ones that you love, not much can beat that!

Make sure to check out Wayfair for a HUGE selection of amazing outdoors pieces from furniture to picnic blankets to dishware and more, to help make your al fresco dining experience the best it can be!

    Love & Blessings,
