    Home Tour: Master Bathroom

    Master bathroom

The second stop on our home tour will be our Master Bathroom. If you missed the first one, check it out here. As you might notice, this is not only my second post in my home tour series, but it’s also my second bathroom that I’m posting. And I will warn you now…the next post in the home tour, will be our third (and final) bathroom! We have worked on other spaces in our home, the problem is, none of them are complete, except for the bathrooms.

    Master bathroom

I mentioned in my first post that bathrooms are really one of the easiest spaces to tackle in your home when it comes to decorating for the obvious reason that they are typically, the smallest space. My downstairs bathroom and the kids bathroom (which I will feature next) were both done in one day. I gathered everything that I needed, laid it all out and was able to get two coats of paint done (one during nap time and the other once the kids went to bed at night).

    Master Bathroom

Our master bathroom took a little bit longer to complete. My mother-in-law was so gracious to tackle the painting one afternoon while she was here visiting us last summer. That was a huge help. We then painted the Ikea wall shelves that we had purchased and sanded them down. Then we did our own DIY where we framed out the existing builder grade mirrors. I will be posting a separate post/tutorial on how you can do this to your mirrors to really spruce them up next week!

After that it was just finding all the right pieces. Most of the items on the countertop are all thrifty finds, which I just love. And then last week, I decided that I wanted to add a little pop of color in there, so I bought the orchid and the two succulents. I definitely don’t have a green thumb, so I’m praying these will last.

We live in a townhouse. Probably one of the largest town homes I’ve ever seen with over 2,400 finished square feet of living space. But it’s still a town home. And so when I say Master bathroom, the immediate picture of a huge, luxurious space with a beautiful clawfoot bathtub and a walk-in shower is just not what our space can handle. Would I love a huge space like that? Of course I would. But do I love the master bathroom that we DO have? Absolutely! I think what’s important here is to learn to be content with what you do have. To not always be longing for something bigger and better.

    Master Bathroom

When we moved to the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), we actually had to downsize. With the market booming like it is here and with me now a stay-at-home mom, we had to find a place that we could afford. We actually feel so blessed with this town home because it is brand new and we were able to select most of our fixtures and so on. But we’ve had to get creative with our space and really make sure we are maximizing what we do have.

    Master Bathroom

I believe you do that not only through how you set up your space, but also what you chose to display. I can’t tell you how many trips I’ve made to the thrift store to DONATE stuff (I usually get a kick out of it when I shop at that store and find one of our old pieces for sale!) With this master bathroom, I had to really think through what I wanted to display. To not overcrowd the counters (hubby would hate that) and yet make it warm and relaxing. I think I accomplished that with these old-to-new pieces. The mixed metals (which I talk about more here), the black and white, the glass and some greenery really allow the space to be light and airy while still having a strong decorative feel.
