    Gabriel’s Nursery

When I was pregnant with our middle child, our son Gabriel, I was obsessed with vintage birds and birdcages. Not exactly sure why, but every time I saw something related to that theme, I wanted it! So when it came to designing a nursery for our little guy, I knew right away, it had to be vintage birds! I’ve also never been a big fan of the traditional “boys” nurseries that I’ve seen in the past. I wanted a fresh look, something unique and of course, filled with birds!

So the search began! I found a color palette that I loved consisting of yellow, grey, white and black with pops of royal blue. I scoured the internet trying to find crib bedding in those colors, for a boy, and it just wasn’t out there. All I could find were very boy themes: sports, bears, airplanes, trains, etc. Definitely not birds! So I decided to check out Etsy and after much searching, I found a bedding designer and was able to totally customize all the pieces for his bedding and accessories using these amazing fabrics! The black fabric with the white bird silhouettes and the quatrefoil fabric are my two favorites!

I also knew that I wanted a focal wall for his room. At the time, there was a very popular frame shape that was floating around on Pinterest. I absolutely loved it. So I decided, why not trace the same shape of the frame on the wall! I found the image of the frame online, blew it up to fit an 8.5×11 page and photocopied it onto a transparency. Then I borrowed the overhead projector from our church (those still come in handy sometimes!) and projected it onto the wall and traced it.  I had already painted the entire wall yellow then traced onto that. Then I went in with the grey paint and by hand followed the lines. If you look closely, you can tell it isn’t perfect, but I kinda love that about it!

Then again, I turned to Etsy to find the perfect decal to put in the middle of my lovely frame! And you guessed it, birds were on my mind! Absolutely fell in love with this design from Circle Line Studio and it was so easy to put onto the wall. Love how it turned out!

Finally, it came to shopping for decor items! One of my most favorite things to do! And everything you see in these pictures below are from HomeSense, including the chair and the lantern. You know those days when it feels like you hit the jackpot at HomeSense? Ya, it was one of those for me that day! I had three carts going of items and went over to a closed cash and started laying everything out and literally designing the nursery, in HomeSense (this is a very common thing for me to do in store when inspiration hits!). And during that time, at least three different women came up to me begging me for that lantern! I had found it in the clearance section, and it was the last one and there was just no way I was giving it up!

IMG_3812  IMG_3830   IMG_3827 IMG_3818 Hope you enjoyed this tour of my Gabriel’s nursery. We so loved this space, even though truth be told, he really didn’t spend much time in it at all! He was such a fussy baby that barely slept, unless it was with mom or dad holding him…but we will save that story for another day!

    Love & Blessings,
